One of the most famous American disappearances,  as noted by Time magazine, concerns the American  author Ambrose Bierce, an author of exceeding popularity between 1880 and 1910.

Bierce supposedly  disappeared into Mexico and the Mexican Revolution during the end of 1913 or the beginning of 1914.  According to the experts writing his biography after  his disappearance, he was last seen in the United States in El Paso, Texas.
